LAKE WORTH BEACH CRA AUTHORIZES FUNDING FOR NEW ECO-FRIENDLY RIDE SHARE SERVICE

Lake Worth Beach, FL - Visitors and residents in the City of Lake Worth Beach will soon have a new way of getting from point A to point B. On January 30th, the Lake Worth Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a one-year contract to fund new electric shuttles in the downtown historic district. The agreement between the CRA and CIRCUIT TRANSIT will assist with funding the operations of up to two environmentally friendly vehicles. For a nominal fee, individuals will be able to request on-demand service through the use of the CIRCUIT app or by waving down a friendly driver. The service is being paid for with both CRA and City funds. Mayor Betty Resch states, “I am pleased that the City is exploring the Circuit service to see how it may fit with our residents. We are at a point in time where different transit modes will be necessary. Once again, Lake Worth Beach is on the forefront of new solutions.”

Founded by James Mirras and Alex Esposito in 2011, CIRCUIT TRANSIT is an affordable electric, micro-transit solution. What began as a humble beach shuttle in the Hamptons of New York, expanded quickly into a bi-coastal operation. Today, CIRCUIT operates in more than 40 markets and eight states. “This will not only help people move from location to location with ease but also offer services at a low price point and do so in a way that is friendlier to the environment than a car or bus”, says Joan Oliva, Executive Director of the Lake Worth Beach CRA.

The inaugural year of operations will be a pilot project managed by the Lake Worth Beach CRA. This initial service will have vehicles operating from noon – 9pm Sunday through Thursday and from noon – 11pm on Friday and Saturday.

The data collected during this trial year will give the CRA and City of Lake Worth Beach a better understanding of the ridership numbers and which destinations have the highest demand. The CRA hopes that this partnership will help mitigate traffic congestion, spur economic growth and promote economic mobility.
